Abigail: Public Affairs One of the main characters of Miller’s play The Crucible is Abigail Williams. The story is about a small town called Salem and the conflicts it goes through during the witch trials. Throughout the play you will discover all the troubles and hardships Abigail Williams has brought to the small town of Salem. Abigail is all about reputation and is “a child of god” but in reality she is the antagonist in the story. “Your name in the town- it is entirely white, is it now?” Abigail is the niece of reverend Parris and they’re all about reputation and how good they look. Abigail is person who is very confident in herself and has to have things go her way. The fact that she was used as a tool in the court gave her even more confidence and more power to make things go her way. During these court trials she makes the people and the court believe her by putting on a show to accuse innocent people to be supposed “witches”. …show more content…

In Act 1 when the girls were first caught dancing in the forest she threatens the girls not to say a word so that they wouldn’t get into trouble. “I’ll beat you Betty!” Abigail would say things to the girls to get them not to say anything. During one of the trials in act 4 Mary Warren tries to confess the truth. Abigail being the vindictive way she is will not stand for that. “Mary, please don’t hurt me” Abigail says saying that Mary’s spirit, which came to her as a yellow bird, is controlling them. This was Abigail’s way of getting her revenge on
