Beowulf The Epic Hero Beowulf is defined as a hero. To be a hero you have to have many characteristics. Beowulf is considered a hero in the book because of the characteristics he portrays. By showing that he wants the best for people, and puts them first over himself. He is super human in ways no one can be in this book. He also shows intelligence and bravery throughout the book. One of the traits that beowulf shows is bravery. Through the book Beowulf killed nine sea creatures in the ocean. He also killed Grendel by ripping his arm off with his own bare hands. He eventually kills Grendel's mother by slashing her neck with a sword. This eventually makes the people depend on him for safety which is another trait. In chapter two, when we meet beowulf we know he is a strong man. He shows evidence in the book of being very brave. We see when he fights Grendel and his mother.
