(Lee 55) In the text To Kill a Mockingbird characters were being judged on actions done in the past making it hard for them to move forward. Boo Radley was one of these characters. He had been being judged all of these years because of his youthful pranks. Boo and his friends had even stole a car and locked the county officer in the courthouse outhouse. It was even said that Boo had stabbed his father in the leg with a pair of scissors. Boo’s father still keeps him at home as he wants to keep the family’s name clean. These stories, instead of scaring the kids, interests them and makes it all the more desiring to try and get him out from that house. Many people tend to see only that she had “killed” Tom Robinson and not that she had raised seven of her younger siblings as their fathers wasted all of his welfare money on booze. Mayella, although her family lived in a dump still tried to keep clean and tidy by growing red germaniums to brighten up the home. Mayella did cost Tom Robinson his life but the town does not get over this. Mayella was most likely caught by her father having an affair with Tom Robinson and then her father, Bob, forced her to accuse Tom of rape. Mayella was forced physically and mentally into making a testimony against Tom Robinson. Mayella however was trapped in her surroundings. She was desperate for love and therefore tried to receive love from a Negro. Mayella did lack in bravery and therefore did not tell the county what she had done and that it was not her
