The idea of going to town had popped up, but no action to go was taken. Out of nowhere, Daisy starts saying how cool Gatsby looked, how he resembled an advertisement of the man. Tom broke in, trying to change the topic and getting everyone to get ready to go to town. Daisy objected and wanted to stay to smoke, but in the end, Tom won so the girls left to get ready upstairs. Tom had left to grab whiskey when Gatsby mentions how he can’t say anything in this house. Nick says Daisy has an indiscreet voice and was going to continue talking until Gatsby cuts him off. First, this quote is simple, yet still able to perfectly describe Daisy, and the chorus pretty much sums up Daisy’s enthusiasm to be with Gatsby (which is not very much). Secondly, the bridge explains why Daisy acts the way she does, it’s all for money, so it would make sense to sound full of money if that’s all you ever wanted in life. All in all, both the quote and song share the obvious connection of money. They also share how shallow people can become for money, and materialism at its finest.
