Looking threw a feminist lends Planet of The Apes portrays females as a less equal sex than males. Women are very distinguished from men, treated differently, and have less control of their own affairs.

In the film Planet of The Apes women are very distinguishable from men. Most of the apes in the movie are males. Beside one of the main characters, Dr.Zira, which was a female ape. Dr.Zira is an animal doctor that does studies on humans and she believes that humans are smart, while every other ape doesn't believe her. It may be possible they didn't believe her studies because she was a female. Another way women are distinguishable from men is all of the ape leaders, guards, and religious figures are males. An example of women being treated poorly is when Tayler treats Nova as an object and like he owns her.Threw out the movie Nova constantly follows Tayler for attention. At the beginning Tayler ignores Nova, and towards the end he won't let her go. When Nova try's to get attention Tayler just treats he like she's not there and gets mad at her for ruining his chance to talk. At the end of the film Tayler sets out to get explore the rest of the world and makes Dr.Zaius give Nova to himself. Dr.Zira is not treated fairly by Dr.Zaius on many occasions. One example, he won't let her continue her experiment because he doesn't like what she was studying and he has more "power" because he is a male. Also when Tayler and Dr.Zira go to trial, Dr.Zaius doesn't even give either one of them a chance in court. He doesn't do this because of what they are, Zira is a girl and Tayler is a human which is considered an animal in the movies world. Stewart in the beginning of the film had passed away in the space capsule. This tragic accident could have happened to any of the four crew members but it happened to the female. Stewart didn't have control whether she had died or not and was complete chance. This film is unequal in the real world because why have three men and one women and the women die and not even make it. Some people might wonder why did the film makers do this? Was it because a women actor wasn't good enough to be a main character? Or was it to show that women can't survive as well as men and aren't strong enough? On another note, Nova isn't in control of her own affairs either the Apes are or Tayler is. This could be also because Nova is mute and cannot communicate, or it could be because she is a female. If Nova had control of what she really wanted she probably wouldn't have ever met him. When the humans are first being hunted in the beginning of the movie gorillas were the ones hunting, no girls. Also almost all the females didn't make it back to the test sight, Nova was one of the few females that didn't get killed, and was lucky.
