The book “Frankenstein or, The Modern Prometheus” by Mary Shelley has one question on whether or not is Frankenstein a hero for what he did to the monster. Mary Shelley’s book was very controversial to its time by creating a power as strong as nature or god. The Doctor Frankenstein has the power to bring back the dead, is he a hero for destroying it and not abusing it. Is the Doctor a villain for rejecting his creation and forcing it into solitude? Is Frankenstein a hero in the book “Frankenstein or, The Modern Prometheus”? Frankenstein has a sense of being both a hero and a villain by actions in the book by Mary Shelley. First, he searches for the power to reanimate life and has a power equal to God. He uses this power to create a monster which later he rejects. Then, Frankenstein rejects the monster by treating it poorly when it was made to be something great. Not only does his creature reject him but, so do them villagers which lead him to only want revenge. Doctor Frankenstein treats the monster so poorly he would to anything to make him suffer; he kills his brother William, gets a family servant sentenced to execution for the death of his brother, and also gets his soon to be bride killed by the hands of the monster. Only wanted one thing in his life, the monster wants someone who will love him and care for him but, the doctor refuses to help. If the Frankenstein would have accepted his creation from the beginning the monster wouldn’t have seen the world as a cruel place. The monster killed Frankenstein not physically but, by killing everything the doctor loved. The monster would have been differently only if he’d been accepted from creation.
