People are always treated differently based on how much they have in their bank account. In the novel right after Nick described him, Tom (daisy’s husband) told George's wife to see him in the city. And while they are leaving tom said, “ ‘Terrible place isn't it,’ said Tom... ‘it does a good to get away’ ‘doesn't her husband object’ ‘Wilson he thinks she go to see her sister in New York he so dumb he doesn't know he's alive’ ”(fitzgerald 25). Right after they left George's shop Tom with telling Nick how bad George's wife lived. And it was good for her to leave and Tom ended up badmouthing george saying that he was dumb. He even goes the distance to call George dumb because he believed in what his wife told him about going to see her sister in new york. George was being treated bad because he was poor and married a decent looking women (myrtle). He does not deserve what he was getting because he worked hard to make myrtle happy but she wanted more and tom offered her more without george knowing. On the other hand when Daisy was going to marry Tom she was treated like a princess. The day before Daisy's wedding Tom gave her a gift, “ He gave her a String of Pearls valued at three hundred and fifty thousand dollars... found her laying on her bed as lovely as the June night in her flower dress” (Fitzgerald 76). This showed how daisy was treated right before her wedding. She was given a $350,000 pearl necklace which in today's value is about 4.5 million dollars which is an absurd amount of money. She also had a flower dress which must of been worth a lot to match with the pearl necklace. She was treated like a queen with what she was given.
