Ever have a fantasy of a life that you wish you could be living? Well in the novel The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, Holden the protagonist most definitely does. The 17 year old narrator wishes that he can live in a world with no dread and no worries. His fantasy is a field of rye in which kids run around and play in the safety of childhood without the fear of “falling” off into adulthood. Even though year by year Holden is getting older it seems almost as if his mind won't quite make that transition from childhood to adulthood. The fear he possess of growing up is something that most can not interpret. He deeply values the innocence, eagerness and integrity that childhood holds because to him the world of adulthood is full of people
