It seems true that we as people need to delude ourselves into thinking we are happy, with so many things we see going on in the world. In “The Great Gatsby”, Jay Gatsby was a kid who ran away from home because he thought he deserved more in life and was willing to work for it. He fell in love with a rich girl, but was soon forced to go to the army. He never kept in touch with her and she later got married. The book tells his story of how he reunites with her and how he wanted things between them to be just like they were. I believe that people who are delusional like Gatsby, they choose to act like they are living in a dream because they don't want to accept the reality.

“He wanted nothing less of Daisy than that she would go to Tom and say, “I never loved you.””(131) Gatsby is so wrapped up in himself that he doesn't see what he is asking Daisy to do. Over the years, he has been able to remain happy solely with the thought of getting Daisy back. At the Plaza, Gatsby decides it's time to tell Tom. you never loved him. “She hesitated…”. (132) Gatsby claims that Daisy has loved him for five years even when he was gone. ““I did love him once-but I loved you too.” Gatsby's eyes opened and closed. “You loved me too?” he repeated.” (132) When Daisy told Gatsby this he was so surprised. He replies with, “I want to speak to Daisy alone,” he insisted. “She’s all excited now”. (133) He has this deluded view of Daisy that she doesn't have any imperfections. So when she doesn't follow gatsby's imaginary plan, he has to convince himself that it wasn't her fault. At this point in the story, the author does well to show just how much Gatsby was deluding himself. He had no concern for the feelings of Daisy or any regard for what he was asking. He was doing everything he could to make himself happy. Till the end of the book, Gatsby never gave up hope he thought after all the events that Daisy would call
