Lord of the Flies Book Cover Similarities and Differences Lord of the Flies is a book about a group of boys who have their plane crash causing them to be stuck together on an island together. The main group of boys is Ralph, Jack, Simon, Piggy, Roger Sam, and Eric. Lord of the Flies takes place on a deserted island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The book takes place in the 1950s. This essay will be comparing and contrasting the 1954 book cover and the 1980 book cover. This essay will explain how they are similar to each other. This essay will also explain how they are different from each other. There are many similarities between the 1954 book cover and the 1980 book cover. One of the many similarities I notice is that the book covers are filled with the color green. They both contain so much green to represent the island and the forest they will have to live through. They also represent the island conditions by showcasing parts of the island in both covers. The 1980 book cover, has leaves that represent the island. On the 1954 book cover, there are forests that represent the island there about to stay on, with a forest on it where they hunt. In the 1954 book cover, the kids facing the front of the book wear hats that come down and block parts of their faces. On the 1980 book cover the leaves are hanging off his face and blocking the top of his face. Part of the reason they cover their faces on the covers is that it is hinting at the boys becoming wild and savage and not being the traditional boys anymore. This is a huge similarity because it hints at a huge cause in the book that the island creates and it changes the outcome of the ending of the book and how the boys become
