What is love? Love is a theory of chemistry, it's like a powerful impulse that is like starvation or thirst, but more permanent. Love could be shown in many different ways in the short story The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry. This story is about two people who don't make much money, but they have enough to take care of themselves. Della and John sell their most prized possession to obtain a gift for one another, love and large-hearted giving when added leave deep marks, and the hairs on Della's head can be counted but her love can not. Love is depicted in this story by the selfless actions from Della and Jim, each show their love for each other. This was Della, whom from the beginning just wanted to obtain a gift for Jim, but she couldn't because money was very tight for the both of them so she asked a lady if she could sell her hair. The lady said yes, so Della cut and sold her hair. Then she found the perfect gift which was a golden watch chain. Jim owned a watch that was passed down from two generations, this was something that had a lot of sentimental value to him, but without Della knowing right off.
