To highlight the arguments surrounding Manson being guilty or a simply a victim of the American justice system, I must present the arguments in this controversy that presents the inhumane side of Manson and his Family and why Manson appear to be someone that should be put away for life. Though Manson did not commit the murders himself, it is hard to pardon him and separate him from his followers. During the penalty phase before conviction, Manson bald his head and shaved his beard into a fork shape. He told the press that this act was done because “I am the Devil, and the Devil always has a bald head (Ramsland, 2005).” This only angered the court and the families of the victims. Manson was obviously in charge of his cult members and as he dictated what was to be done to the victims, he also dictated what his cult members in the courtroom said. It was seen how they fought hard to take the blame and stand up for Manson (Ramsland, 2005). Manson’s cult was built upon something peculiar and bizarre possessed by his followers. This can be seen in the three girls that committed the murders who all possessed a syndrome of hostility and rage that preexisted their encounter with Manson (Ramsland, 2005). Each member had some inner flaw that Manson knew how to unleash and manipulate. He exploited these people and focused their innate ability on a common enemy to be sadistically violent. He operates similar to other cult leaders, using his unique charisma to manipulate his cult members, developing belief that he was invincible and even supernatural, closely aligning himself with Jesus
