Mathematical Memories Math can be difficult or easy depending on early memories and very importantly the way Math is taught in elementary years. Enjoying math at these early years can affect whether one will like, dislike, frustrated or gain confidence in math skills. Mathematics is everywhere, in everything we do and requires brainstorming and thinking through different ways to solve a problem. Personally, I’ve always showed an interest in math and considered myself to be good at math. Some of my first and favorite memories of math was during preschool in graphing the weather chart, counting and tracking the daily, weekly calendar. I also loved doing all kinds of puzzles and working to fit the shapes, while solving the problem of putting the puzzles together.
During my elementary years, I very much enjoyed learning math. It was really cool to learn to count into the high numbers and a fun activity was the 100’s club. We would scroll on a chart until we reached 1000. At that time, it was very special, we could choose any teacher to eat lunch. It was always helpful to learn if you could use hands

My family would write out all twelve tables in order in columns forward for multiplication and reverse for division. Then we would practice them everywhere anytime until we got faster. We would recite the tables and it was a fun way to learn. I would even get prizes for saying them. During Elementary years it was fun to learn math with any kind of activity or craft and not realizing you were learning. As I got older the math became more difficult. The teachers were too quick in teaching the concepts and kept teaching even if one had a question or needed extra help. Also, they were not helpful in explaining the mistakes made. Even though there were many tests, if you didn’t understand it could become a struggle. Important was to practice and
