Dimensional analysis is a method most nurses find easier to use. The equation is set up by using the known factor or the dosage of medication to be administered and then written as a fraction, then multiply this number by the conversion factor, the number of milligrams contained in each tablet, capsule or milliliter of liquid medicine. Once the formula is set up, cancel out and reduce any numerators and denominators. Multiply any remaining fractions then divide to get the answer.
