In the story Animal Farm, by George Orwell he makes animals rebell against the humans to defend their farm. He creates characters that both compliment and contrast each other and it gives us a good sense of how the story line is played out. The author writes a story of both peril and triumph. He makes characters that will help each other in a way, and hurt each other. Napoleon and Boxer pose as a contrast to each other because their motives are very different. The lesson we learn from this is that there can never be two people that are alike in a way. They always have to contrast each other. One is going to be the bad guy and the other is going to the good guy. Taking a deeper look at how the pigs and horses act with one another, Boxer also …show more content…
The first example would be how Napoleon trained the dogs to do his bidding. “At this there was a terrible baying sound outside, and nine enormous dogs wearing brass-studded collars came bounding into the barn. They dashed straight for Snowball, who sprang from his place just in time to escape their snapping jaws.” (67) Nobody had really listened to Napoleon and they really only went with Snowball's ideas because he grabbed hold of their attention the most. Napoleon trained the dogs on his own time to always follow him and the other pigs. They were trained to protect him. Napoleon didnt learn to save himself or stand up for himself in ways, he more so took time out of his day to train other animals to do his bidding. He only worked if it benefited him. The second example is when Boxer worked, Napoleon went and sat in the farmhouse. “It was also more suited to the dignity of the Leader (for of late he had taken to speaking of Napoleon under the title of ‘Leader’) to live in a house than in a mere sty.” (79) Boxer’s motive was always “I will work harder.” Napoleon was just the enforcer. He created the rules, but also bent them. Napoleon has grown to live in the farmhouse using human things. The rules stated that you couldn’t do anything associated with human stuff, but he switched around the rules to fit his needs. The animals were also told that the pigs would be sleeping in a lot later than the normal times the animals usually got up. But Boxer always got up before everyone and worked so hard as to get everything
