A lousy teenager likes Nate, who no one ever wants to come across to. In the novel “One of Us is Lying” by Karen M. McManus, the character Nate Macauly, the most suspicious out of the four suspects to have killed Simon Kellher, is classified as a dynamic character because Nate is known to have an infamous reputation at school. The way he dresses and how he smells is what made ugly rumours around him resulting in everyone staying away from him. This results in Nate not having any friends. But ever since the tragedy of Simon’s death, Nate began the transition to becoming a better person.

Nate and Bronwyn would always call each other at night and watch movies together. After a few nights, Nate began to show affection towards Bronwyn. As the quote says, “You’re not alone. I’m watching it with you” (McManus 145). This verifies that Nate is slowly becoming more of a person, someone, who was vicious turning into a caring person. Nate’s character used to spit an image of an untrustworthy person, but as the case goes on, the officers and detectives couldn’t find the culprit who killed Simon. So the Bayview Four decided to team up to find who was behind all of this. This includes Bronwyn, Cooper, Addy and Nate. If the other three allowed Nate to join their private investigation, that demonstrates that they trust Nate to not be the killer. A quote says “ We’re in an empty, under-construction house after midnight for a meeting of the Bayview Four” (McManus 263). For clarity, it says that Bronwyn, Cooper, Addy and Nate will be doing a secret meeting to find out who is the real killer. Through many events and changes Nate Macauley has been through, he has been falsely accused and has been sent to jail. The unpredictable announcement has got to Bronwyn and she was doing everything in her power to prove Nate innocent.
