In the book To Kill a Mockingbird many characters represent a form of courage and meet the standards of what real courage is, but I cannot list them all so here are the three characters that I picked that represents courage the most to me. Atticus Finch a father, a lawyer, and a well known person in the small town of Maycomb,Alabama represents courage to me, because as Maycomb is known for displaying harsh feelings on the black community Atticus was still willing to take the case of a African american man known as Tom Robinson. After Atticus took the case he knew him and his kids would be criticized for his actions but he knew it was the right thing to do. Even though from the being of the trial Atticus knew they wouldn't have a chance
#1 Courage was also shown by Mrs. Dubose in To Kill A Mockingbird. She was a stubborn old lady who would say rude things every time Jem or Scout passed by her house. Morphine was her addiction, and since Jem ruined all of her camellia bushes after receiving many insults from her, his punishment was to read to her and have Scout join as well. Later we find out that Jem and Scout read to her for a certain amount of time, and during that time period she was without morphine. She wanted to wean off of morphine, as that seemed to be her dying wish.

One lesson in the book that I feel Jem learns as a part of growing up is moral courage. Atticus once told Jem that “courage is [not] a man with a gun in his hand. It 's when you know you 're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what.” Jem had always seen bravery as important and often tried to show the courage in him but only learnt about what moral courage really was through a series events that took place in the book.
