Imagine sailing across the ocean to a land that is rumored to have savages that will kill you and eat you. Then have diseases that you have no chance of fighting. At the age of 11. Samuel Coliler is an orphan and he is also a fast leaner and pick up skills very quickly. He has no friends and a short temper. Then throughout the book he changes and makes multiple friends and learns to trust others. Samuel Collier is a dynamic character because his longing and fears change throughout the book.

First, Samuel Collier is a dynamic character because his longings changed through out the book. On page 100 it says, “‘Then a thought strikes me. ‘Richard, you need armor.’” This shows that Richard wants Samuel to be safe so he’s telling him he needs armor. So he’s longing him to stay alive. On pages 208 it says, “I take another breath. My anger is focused, I have made a decision, I have a plan, I believe reverent hunt would approve I have made this decision out of love. When he gets angry he takes out his emotions in harmful ways, especially because James is just a little kid. At this point in the story, Samuels attitude has not changed.
