Looking from the start of "A Christmas Carol", which I will call from now on "the book", Scrooge is described in the worst way a human could be described. Dickens' fantastic descriptions drew an image of a sharp, misanthropic, covetous old miser. His greed for wealth and his superb selfishness made him stand out like a goose in a queue of ducks compared to the charity men's benevolence and his comely nephew's good heart. as "the book" describes, Scrooge is a "tightfisted hand at the grindstone...hard and sharp as flint, solitary as an oyster. "(page 12), highlighting his selfishness and hostility.
“Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction. ”(Erich Fromm)There is a story based on this quote that involves one greedy man who learns a great lesson from three spirits and an inspiring ghost who used to be his partner. This remarkable book is called A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens in December 1843, currently a worldwide play and film. The main character Ebenezer Scrooge was the exact definition of greed until he was visited by Marley, his friend that had died and became a ghost, who brought with him the Spirit of Christmas Past, Present and Future. Scrooge with their help he began to realize the true meaning of Christmas.
Christmas Greed Greed is the one thing that everyone in the world has in common. Greed can cause cause someone to be selfish and hurt those around them as a result. Bad greed causes people and others around them to get hurt. Greed can change a person’s personality.
Scrooge is told by the spirit of his dead business partner, Jacob Marley, that his time is running out and he needs to change. Ebenezer Scrooge
The collective greed of mankind has resulted in a planet where our resources are being used up at an alarming rate. Greedy people are often looked at like selfish and ignorant human beings. Ebenezer Scrooge is like that, but there was a time that he wasn’t. Ebenezer is a rich businessman who despises the poor. Scrooge didn’t believe in the Christmas Spirit, all he thought was that Christmas was just of load of humbug!(Dickens, 6)
First scrooge is a cold hearted business man that only cares about money. If people ask him if he will donate money to the poor he tells them to go die to decrease the population. And he will not even give money to his own family because of how greedy he is. Scrooge's old business partner Marley died 7 years ago on christmas. But then he came back as a ghost to warn him that if he keeps being mean and greedy when he dies he will end up like marley.
In the place of Ebenezer Scrooge’s outlook on life, he feels no joy. Ever since his lifelong business partner, Jacob Marley, kicked the bucket, Scrooge became more stingy than he ever was. A time of useless giving, robbery, is what Scrooge sees Christmas as.
Later in the night Scrooge had another visitor, the Ghost of Christmas Present. The Ghost of Christmas Present was on the throne surrounded by Christmas goodies. Ebenezer Scrooge is the greedy man in the novel who values his money more than anyone or anything. His greed has caused many people to dislike him, even his employees find him cruel and cheap. He begins to change, however, when he is visited by his dead partner Jacob Marley. Marley warns Scrooge that three other Spirits will be visiting him throughout the night, and will help convince him to change his ways.
The occurrence of sin transgresses from years previous; both Jacob Marley and Scrooge are guilty of committing sin. Greed and misplaced values had led Jacob Marley to punishment, wandering the Earth for seven years bound in chains. Destined for the same fate, Scrooge seeks redemption through the many lessons taught by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. The three ghosts are very symbolic; they represent Scrooge’s life in the past, present and future. The Ghost of Christmas Past appears to Scrooge as a white-robed, androgynous figure of an undetermined age.

Scrooge is actually happy at this time. The Spirit finally takes him to his worst nightmare. she takes him to the exact moment when Ebenezer’s girlfriend releases him. On a Christmas eve, Scrooge(whose father has died and now he has finally made his fortune) comes home from work and finds his girlfriend at the park on a bench. His girlfriend sadly goes off about how he never has time for her and his thoughts had been consumed by money.
In the novel Christmas Carol Scrooge is visited by three ghosts who show him his bad ways. In the movie Scrooge states, "Men's courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if preserved in, they must lead. But if the courses be departed from, the ends will change. Say it thus with what you show. " This means what you do or have done affects the future.
One night, in a dream, he is warned by his deceased friend, Marley, that three spirits would come to him. The first spirit is the spirit of Christmas past, and it shows him an event from his past. In the event, Scrooge is seen leaving his lover because she is too poor. Scrooge regrets this decision greatly. The next spirit tells him about the present, and it shows him how his employee, Bob Cratchit, is suffering.
