Social satires are common among the film industry. Satire in film can be described as wit or humor founded on fantasy or sense of the absurd. The object of attack is often something we are familiar with and are frequently around in our daily lives. We as viewers enjoy seeing things we regularly encounter being poked fun at. This satirical lens gives us a chance to sit back and see our world in a new light. We are able to view social issues from a different point of view and learn something from our actions and the actions of others. What is it that we really, truly value? What are things we can do to be better citizens, lovers, friends, and family members? All of these questions can be answered by taking the time to laugh at the norms of society portrayed through film. …show more content…

Though set in entirely different decades, both films point out the complications present in each of their respective time periods and attempt to navigate through the chaos of life at that time, emphasizing the social issues and attitudes dealt with and represented by the characters. Both of these films highlight the struggles people face in varying social classes and occupations. No one is safe from the cultural practices around them. But, more importantly than the cultural norms are the values that come with the American culture. Each of these films portrays the carelessness of several iconic American values, but chooses to highlight a few values that we as viewers should take seriously. Today I will further compare and contrast the values of prosperity, glamour, integrity, love, sacrifice, and respect for authority and how they are perpetuated in these two films. I will give examples of these values and explain why the filmmakers want us to appreciate these values and perhaps change the way we view them in
