In the book The Great Gatsby in 1920 they make some references to sports and other things that are different from the 1920 era. The sports were way different from today. The time they took to sit back and relax looked different too. This Sport wasn't the most popular sport but later on by the 1920’s became even more popular. One of the reasons for this is a guy named Gene Tunney or we can call him by his nickname “The Fighting Marine”. He was given this nickname not just because he was an animal in the ring but because before he took boxing professionally he had joined the U.S. Marine Corps during World War 1. Then later on in 1919 he went on to win the light heavyweight championship. However, he was a really good boxer in 1920 he wasn't the only one though. Jimmy Wilde was another great cause on why it had so much popularity as well. He was into boxing at a very young age of just 16 years old weighing in at just 74 pounds! He may not have been the biggest and strongest guy in the ring, however, he did show some power and dominance to earn the nickname “The Mighty Atom”. He was given this nickname because of the fact how small he was, he knew people had size on him so he was determined to be the very best he could be. Horse Racing grew a lot of popularity throughout the years but recently has lost so much popularity some don't even see it as a sport anymore. Horse Racing was held on a dirt track and the only thing the horses and riders left behind was their hooves in the dirt of the track. A person most famous for horse racing is the mighty Man o’ War. In just two years he had won 20-21 starts and he had made roughly $249,645.
