The Hunger Games" is a book about a place called Panem where people don't have freedom whatsoever. This place is called a dystopian society, which is the opposite of a utopian society. This book shows what happens when a society is like this. It will talk about the difference between a bad place which is called dystopian and a good place called utopia. It will also look at how living in a bad place can really affect everyone’s freedom and happiness. Utopian and dystopian societies both have a lot of control over their people, but for different reasons. In Panem, the Capitol stays in charge by controlling resources and making districts take part in the yearly contests. Utopian communities also have strict rules to keep everyone in line. Both of these types of societies have a social hierarchy, which means that some people have more power than others. In dystopian societies like Panem, this isn’t fair and makes things worse for people who don't have as much power.
