In Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein pursues dangerous knowledge involving creating new life in hopes of being recognized, but due to his inability to think of consequences Victor brings a massive creature to life who can kill with ease. This creature kills several of Victor’s close friends and family to get revenge for abandoning him. Victor constantly ignores the future consequences of his actions and brings danger to everyone around him. He becomes immersed in his work and then, only after he has finished, he finally recognizes what he has created as “the wretch, the filthy daemon whom I had given life” (65). Victor realized his mistake, but it was far too late, as blood was already shed due to his ignorance. This highlights Victor's irresponsibility, as at one point he would fantasize about the sheer wonder of making abominations of nature, but only after he has seen the consequences of it. As a result: Victor realizes that it is a disgusting, and dreadful thing. The creature is simply misguided; it was innocent and kind until it was treated with contempt by society due to factors which it couldn’t control. The creature was introduced to knowledge that “sometimes raised me to ecstasy, but more frequently sunk me into the lowest dejection.”(119). If the creature was received in a more humane way by Victor and given better influences to draw humanity from, it never would have become a murderer.
