January 3rd at 3:17 p.m. is the moment Julia’s life changed forever. At the young age of 17, she had never seen this coming. After arriving home from school, Julia was immediately informed that one of the few people she had ever looked up to had left her, by choice. Her father had made some immoral decisions. Her parents marriage was now in the past, and the future included a divorce. Julia was heartbroken. She had always admired her parents marriage. From the flirting as if they were 16 to the bickering as if they were 70, they always displayed what true love looked like. She had always idolized her parent’s marriage that was now over after 18 years. This resulted in Julia giving up hope for future relationships and began to cause problems in her current one. She had always trusted her boyfriend, and never worried about other girls, but that suddenly changed. The trust disappeared. She became paranoid. Thoughts such as “If someone can cheat after 17 years, 5 months is not anything.” crossed her mind constantly. She began to start arguments over foolish things such as another girl texting him or even another girl just talking to him in the hallway. This lead to a more permanent issue, the fear of commitment and a disbelief in the permanence of love. She had always envisioned having a marriage one day full of love and happiness just like her parents. This dream disappeared. Julia began to worry. Since she had started dating, Julia’s parents consistently informed her that she would find her true love just like they had done and the love would be everlasting. Now her parents “true everlasting love” was over and she began to wonder if there even was such a thing as true love. If there was, after observing the marriage vow being broken and seeing how the divorce affected her mom, it made Julia not want to even get married and go through the pain of lost love
