Montag Essay How has Montag’s character changed? Montag can be described as independent and emotionless. He seems to be all alone, but he actually has a wife and they talk, rarely. During the course of Fahrenheit 451, Montag’s character changes. In part 1 of the book, Montag's is a boring man that does not think or talk. By the end of the book, Montag talks more, thinks more things, and even reads books. In part 1 of Fahrenheit 451, the reader is introduced to Montag. He is a fireman that burns books. Montag has not talked to anymore in over a year. Montag can be described as boring and unhappy. He says that he does not think many things. Then he meets Clarisse, “ I’m seventeen and crazy” and thinks many things. Clarisse asks Montag, “Are you happy?” And that makes Montag question his true happiness. Montag sees Mildred, his wife, and asks her, “Mildred, you didn't put in the alarm!” but there was no answer back. Montag realizes that he can no longer trust his own wife. Montag becomes so upset that instead of burning his own house down, he burns captain Beatty to death. Montag does not realize that he has also burned Faber to death too. Now Montag is shocked at what he has done. He decides to leave the city before anything else bad happens. In the end of part 3, Montag meets a group of men that call themselves” book covers.” The whole city was demolished. Now there is a need for a new society filled with books and people that think to many things. Montag's character has changed drastically over the 3 parts of Fahrenheit 451. In the beginning, Montag was boring and unhappy. By the end of the book, Montag is not really happy but he thinks more, talks to more people and is still reading books. He realizes that he was not happy at all living in this society. Now he can make a new and improved society to fit his wants and desires for other people, as well as
