Do you ever wonder what it takes to get on a dollar bill? Do you want to be on the twenty dollar bill? It is not impossible, but it is a tough task considering the current face is none other than the notorious Andrew Jackson. Jackson is a self-made man who grew up in Waxhaws without any parents. At a young age, he joined the militia and his career only skyrocketed from there. However, it wasn’t until the Battle of New Orleans, that he got the spotlight. Not too long afterwards, he ran for presidency. So why exactly should he be on the bill? The Nullification Crisis almost split the nation up but Jackson handled it. It all started when Congress raised tariffs on imported goods in 1828. This supported the northern factory workers but not the southern farmers. Jackson understood their struggle and signed a law to lower tariffs in 1832. This wasn’t enough to satisfy some extreme supporters of states’ right. Led by John C. Calhoun, South Carolinians threatened to secede if the government tried to enforce tariffs. According to TCI History Alive, Jackson outrages, “If one drop of blood be shed there in defiance of the laws of the United States, I will hand the first of them I can get my hands on from the first tree I can find,” (Hart, 2005). Proceedingly, he passed a Force Bill which allowed him to use the federal army to collect tariffs if necessary. On the contrary, it can be stated that Jackson violated the constitution as he went against the states’ right and he used the military for reasons aside benefiting the safety and wellbeing of the country. This can further be contested by the fact that Jackson was up against a wall knowing the tariffs would benefit the economy but at the same time harm the south if they were high. Considering the following, Jackson did what he did best that being the right
