In the novel Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen, the main character Cole Matthews goes from a furious teenager that controls his anger through violence to a controlled young adult who turns to be very thoughtful. The text states “With anger he had been brewing all day, he attacked him and started hitting him hard in the face with his bare fists” (Mikaelsen 7). This quote shows Cole let out his anger violently or in ways of hurting others. The text also states “But maybe if Peter came to the island,he would see how much things could change”(Mikaelsen 203). This quote shows how Cole changed because it explained how he was trying to help Peter and to get him to change like Cole did.
In Ray Bradbury's “Fahrenheit 451”, the character Guy Montag is similar to the prisoner in “The Allegory of the Cave” because, Montag and the Prisoner were brought into the world with forced opinions and thoughts that shaped how they feel and think. Both Montag and the prisoner had nothing to look back on that showed a different opinion, so they were both stuck to believe anyone at face-value. These forced opinions however, were later changed after they were revealed by a character (the old man or Faber) and caused them to shed a whole new set of skin.
The Devil in the White City gives a unique glimpse into how there is both bad and good existing in the city. In my opinion the point of the book was to show how both good and bad coexist in one place. Sometimes with the knowledge of the other existing. The book was written by Erik Larson and published by first vintage books. Published almost 14 years ago the book is still relevant today and still has much to teach us.
In the novel Wolf Hall by Hillary Mantel, the author grants insight into the burning of a so-called “heretic” by the name of Joan Boughton through John Foxe, author of Foxe’s Book of Martyrs. The episode is described in improvised detail by Mantel from the view point of a young Thomas Cromwell. Mantel’s account includes the securing of Mrs. Boughton to the stake she would be burned at, the sound of her screams as the fire licked her flesh, the jeering of the crowd, the primal enjoyment had at this brutal scene by the spectators, all of these details being offset only by his own interpreted discomfort at witnessing this. This supposed distress provides a direct line into the character of Thomas Cromwell as depicted in the novel by Mantel. This passage is also used to exemplify the frame of mind of the times Cromwell lived in, along with his own opinions on the matter as she records him asking, “Does nobody pray for her?”

While both Steve Harmon from Monster and Andrew Jackson from Tears of a Tiger both seem like they are unable to do with without somebody else, they differ because Steve is discouraged while Andy is irresponsible. Both characters are very dependent on another supporting character whether it is emotionally or physically. However, Steve is discouraged and worried about his future. Andy, on the the other hand, seems very thoughtless and doesn’t seem to think about the consequences of his actions.
We often encourage people to actively pursue their happiness while also wanting to discourage them to escape from reality. However, avoiding your issues is also a way of pursuing happiness, even though this route will prove to be temporary. In the literary piece, “Horses of the Night” by Margaret Laurence, the author describes the story of a boy named Chris, who, due to his financial conditions, is forced to move from his home in Shallow Creek to dwell in Manawaka, in order to attend high school. Chris’ character is used to demonstrate the idea that individuals may escape from the miserable aspects of their lives in order to stay happy. Through the course of this work, you witness the changes Chris undergoes, through the eyes of his six-year-old cousin Vanessa, which ultimately lead to his downfall.
Mowat and his colleagues had the wrong idea about the wolves and this novel allows the reader to be able to see the truth. Mowat spent enough time familiarizing himself with the wolves so that they did not see him as a threat. As his trip came to an end, Mowat had to investigate the wolves’ den. As he entered he realized he was not alone. The female wolf, Angelina, and one of her pups were hidden due to the

Annabelle McBride, the main protagonist in Lauren Wolk’s Wolf Hollow, is forced to grow up in several harsh situations. In the novel, Annabelle witnesses unjust deaths and is forced to act alone when she is fighting to prove the innocence of Toby Jordan. He is a reclusive war hero, who some think is a mad man. He is being convicted for pushing Betty Glengarry, the antagonist of the novel, into a well. When Annabelle goes to Toby’s smokehouse in an effort to find him, when she blames herself for Betty’s death, and when Annabelle’s brother Henry gives Annabelle time to process in a hard time -- they are forced to grow up before they are ready.
What begins the changes in Montag and what are the changes in him? In Ray Braudbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451, Guy Montag undergoes major changes because of the influence of other intellects and events; in effect this caused him to ruminate about events that were considered “normal”. Montag’s occupation is firefighting, however he is not the traditional version of a fire fighter. Montag does not put out fire, but rather helps ignite them.
Suspicion can be fascinating but haunting. Since Victorian times, the suspicious death case of Sir Charles Baskerville in The Hound of the Baskerville has intrigued/compelled vast amounts of readers. However, recent audiences are more compelled to stories with a modern twist of horror and gruesomeness. Because of less main characters, a fast-paced plot, and the differing point of view of Atwood’s The Hound of the Baskervilles film adaptation, the film has a frightening, intriguing mood with a new perspective compared to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original novel.
Wolves, when in groups, are universally threatening and recurrently feared. This being known, they are often portrayed as an evil or opposing force. Although, on occasion, they have also been known to be referred to as “noble creatures who can teach us many things.” (http://www.wolfcountry.net/) But consequently, despite the popular interpretation of wolves and their characteristics, each story presents its own interpretation of their many characteristics.
The Cold War was a conflict which arose after World War II between the United States and the Soviet Union, former allies. This war was not a traditional physical war, it was more a war of political, military and technological victory. With the use of propaganda, both would flaunt their scientific, technological achievements. It was, in essence, a battle of superiority. This war began in the mid 20th century and would end with the collapse of the Soviet Union, in 1991.
