The Panama canal is an invention that changed history. The Panama canal was finished being built in 1914 and took eleven years to build. At first it was hard to a the approval to build the canal. At the time Panama was ruled over by Columbia, Panama wanted the canal to be built, however Columbia did not. Eventually Panama got its independence under the protection of the United States. At first Panama was grateful to the United States then they realized that they were sold out. The French first attempted to build this canal but failed. Americans finished what the French Started. To begin with the Panama canal had a tremendous effect on America. For example before the Panama Canal in order to get from North to South America you had to go all the way around. When Panama was made into the Panamanian Republic Columbia got mad. This was the first event in history where there was a bloodless battle America and Columbia just talked it there they did not use violence and were civil. Instead of the Panama canal being built at sea level it was built a lock canal. This was used so the Americans would not fail as the French did. The lock canal had a highly engineered massive dam and had platforms that descend and rises not go straight threw. Furthermore in the video that we watched in class I do believe it accurately depicts what happened when building the Panama Canal. In the video they might have not gotten everything correct, but for the most part I do believe it is accurate. This is because in other articles I have read it states the same concepts of the video the video was just more elaborate. In the video there was historians and they study this all there life.
