The Rolling Stone Magazine

The publication of my choice is a magazine. This magazine is called “The Rolling Stone.” It has been one of the most influential magazines in American culture for decades. The Rolling Stone was founded in November of 1967 by Jann Wenner. It quickly became a platform for music and popular culture in the United States. In it’s beginning years, The Rolling Stone explored beyond the normal boundaries of what was acceptable to print in the mainstream media at the time. It would report on topics such as the war in Vietnam, drugs, and other controversial topics that other publications would not dare touch. The magazine also featured long-form or literary journalism, which was not really common at that time. It also helped pave the way for investigative journalism today.
“Rolling Stone magazine has remained a trusted voice in popular culture since its inception in 1967” (Utz, 2019, para.1).
In addition to enhancing the landscape of journalism, The Rolling Stone also had a huge impact on the music industry. Its articles, reviews, interviews, and profile pieces helped bring attention to new artists, and it has remained an important source for evaluation of new music ever since. It has also served as a platform for new genres of music and for political activism within the music community.
