Drinking and Driving According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 33% of teenagers who have died in motor vehicle accidents were under the influence in some way. Although teenagers may try to justify that is okay in some cases to drink and drive, the truth is, it is never okay. Driving under the influence is highly dangerous in all cases even if teens are not “drunk” or “only had one beer.” The smallest amounts of alcohol are able to decrease awareness and decision-making skills. This is why teenagers need to know how alcohol might affect their own and others’ driving skills, other factors that may contribute to unsafe driving, and the consequences of drinking and driving. Effects of intoxication on driving are usually stupid things that teenagers would never do while sober. For example, drunk drivers may stop for no reason in the middle of traffic, drive off the road, or drive with no headlights.
