Jaws is initially a 1974 novel written by Peter Benchley. This story is about a great white shark that preys upon a small resort town, and the journey of three men trying to kill it. Peter Benchley was inspired by many real life incidents, such as the Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916. This novel was published in February 1974 becoming a great success and staying on the bestseller list for over 43 weeks. Jaws(film) is a 1975 American thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg which is based on Benchley's novel of the same name. The novel and film takes place in an island community called Amity. Jaws is a great white shark that threatens the safety of the summer tourists in the community. Jaws has three main human characters, Brody, Quint and Hooper. Brody is the police chief, Quint is the shark obsessed fisherman and Hooper, an oceanographer who knows best of what a shark can do to a man. The film went over budget …show more content…

In the film, the director chooses to use realistic human limbs. The first victim in the film Jaws is a girl named Chrissie Watkins. The attack on Chrissie who was visiting Amity Island for summer break occurred when she went skinny dipping. Examples of the use of realistic human limbs are when Chrissie’s remains are washed onto shore. Another example of the use of human limbs is when a man is attacked by Jaws in the pond and his legs drops to the bottom of the ocean. Next, there is a special effect of artificial blood. In the film, Mrs. Kinter son Alex gets eaten by the great white shark when he is out for a swim on his inflatable mattress. The blood quickly fills the water and everyone rushes out the water. Finally, special effects were used to create the mechanical shark in the film.
