On the twelfth month,, Washington marched his exhausted, beaten, starving and sick army to valley forge, a place about 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia, which was occupied by the british. From Valley Forge, Washington could look over General Howe's British army staying in Philadelphia. At Valley Forge, there were shortages of supplies. This was everything from food to clothing to medication. Washington's soldiers were sick from disease, hunger, and exposure.
Valley Forge: Would you have quit? During the winter of 1777 - 1778 the Patriots were in Valley Forge. Tons of soldiers suffered from disease, starvation, and frostbite. Most of them even died. The conditions were horrible for the soldiers and they were dying out.
Therefore, I choose to stay at Valley Forge, for there is a chance for me to not die of sickness because of the medical care, there is also patriotism, and people are willing to fight for our freedom. The documents A and C prove that only 14% died of sickness. there were about 12,000 of us to start with, and only about 1,800- 2500 died from December to June. Therefore, that leaves just about 9,500 of us left. However, with all the people that abandoned the Continental Army leaves us with just about 8,000 of us.
Valley Forge was a winter camp 18 miles away from Philadelphia, where George Washington took his troops during 1777 and 1778. The British army is comfortable in Philadelphia, while Valley Forge has harsh conditions with the cold weather and the lack of supplies. I will not reenlist when my 9-month enlistment is over. I will not reenlist for these reasons, diseases, lack supplies, and cold weather and smoky air.
It is stated in document A that only 3,989 were sick out of 8,000. That means only 50% of the soldiers were sick, also the weather would be the same everywhere else too and you would probably be sick at home or anywhere else, some soldiers did not really realize that when they left. Also it is stated in document A that 1,800 out of 12,000 died. Which is only about 15%, and in those odds I would have definitely stayed.
The army fell short of the ideal image the American public had created for it, as it lacked experience and professionalism. However, this would not last forever. The army gained professionalism during their time at Valley Forge, eventually resembling the institution the America public feared. Royster, defines Valley Forge as a, “test of national survival because it had been a test of the army’s survival amid hardships caused in large by fellow revolutionaries” (190). It also marked a turning point in the war, as it was the last time the revolutionaries expected to be united with the same enthusiasm as in 1775.
In the winter, Washington took his troops to Valley Forge, which was 18 miles from Philadelphia. At this time, Valley Forge was a difficult place to live for the Patriots. It was a struggle but if I were a Patriot in Valley Forge fighting for Washington’s Army, I wouldn’t quit. I won’t quit for three big reasons; yes I know there were a lot of sick soldiers but not as much as dying soldiers, another thing is the conditions were horrible, but there were many brave soldiers who stuck with it, and stayed with Washington, lastly I do not want to be a “summer soldier” because freedom is valuable so it is worth fighting for.
These were my top three reasons to why I wouldn’t stay in Valley Forge. The cooking the clothes and also the freezing my butt off during all of that happening I don’t understand how these people made it through the times that I couldn’t even make it through a day out at Valley Forge. The winter of 1777-78 was terribly cold, bitter, and harsh. These conditions made things very difficult for General Washington’s military unit. The unit’s morale and physical strengths were severely tested throughout this challenging and historical time. On December 19, 1777, General George Washington, the Commander of the U.S. Continental Army led the troops to Valley Forge in Pennsylvania for a few different reasons.
My second reason I will re-enlist is that they are in bad conditions and need help. We are living in smoky huts and have messed up clothes. Some of us say we are smoked out of our senses because it is so smokey in our huts (Waldo 151). We have terrible lives here but I am re-enlisting. his reason has caused me to re-enlist because me and my buddies are in bad conditions and I want to help.
Smoke, sickness, and no shelter are all things that a soldier would not want to see; Valley Forge is something no one would have ever wanted to see. I have been fighting for nine months and my mother is dying; I will not be re-enlisting. Would you have re-enlisted or quit fighting for yourself and/or others. The reasons I am not going to re-enlist are because of death and illness, harsh conditions, and lack of support and supplies. First of all, I am not going to re-enlist because of death and illness.
As much as I want to stay and help out the army, I’ve chosen to come back home. I have been homesick and don’t want to be so cold all the time. As good as it sounds to have freedom, I rather have a warm place to stay at and nicer clothes than I have now. Lots of sickness, too much death, and terrible conditions are the reasons why I am not going to re-enlist. One reason I am choosing to leave is that there is too much sickness.
I’ve been here for 8 months, and in 1 more month I can choose to re-enlist, or go home. My decision has already been made. Although George Washington is trying his best, his monotonous words will not be enough to keep me in this graveyard. I refuse to risk my health and in all likelihood die from the sickness and disease going around camp. I refuse to starve, be frigid, live in smolder-filled huts, and remain unclothed and unhealthy.
Science and studies have shown that on this planet, human is the only species that’s really not afraid of horror. While, others species run away from a horror act or scene, human with their curiosity, actually want to see and run toward it. There is something about horror, which makes a person draws into it, craves it, and always try to find new ways that can satisfied his or her need of “horror addiction”. That is the reason why authors and movie creators continuously try to come up with the new ideas to improve their product so it can satisfied their viewers. There’re many different categories of horror: supernatural acts, spiritual (ghost), monsters, aliens…etc.
Cold was one problem, smoke was another. Hopefully, the soldiers will have the courage to make it through this devastating time. Lack of food, living conditions, and horrid climate are some reasons of why a soldier would quit Valley Forge. One reason a soldier would quit Valley Forge is the lack of food.
