In November 1918, after an enormous amount of rebellions, the war was finally ceasing to seem like an issue. Therefore, Germany started focusing on a new step: getting rid of the Kaiser. After many attempts to put an end to the Empire, the leading party of the Reichstag, the Social Democrats, gave an ultimatum to Wilhelm II, who ultimately decided to abdicate and the Weimar Republic was established from 1919 to 1933. Many believe that there was a revolution that lead to the change from Autocracy to Democracy, but is it true?

The conditions in Germany were drastic and needed assistance: hunger increased dramatically throughout the country and brought the morale to rock bottom. Since the Social Democrats controlled the country before and after the so called 'revolution', the situation did not really change. In fact, even if the main party was supposed to have communist ideals, some of the leaders, for instance Ebert, wanted to save the Kaiser as they thought that his resignation was too extreme. Consequently, we can consider the idea that the whole 'revolution' was staged to make the society think that there was a development. As a matter of fact, neither the social nor the economic situation did alter, the military conditions were didn't change and politically speaking the same people as before were ruling. They called themselves 'comrades' as the Bolsheviks did, their speeches spread Marxist ideas and their name even made believe that they were socialist; however, this was a facade to cover their moderation and traditionalism. Their restraint was actually caused by the fear of loosing the support of the rich part of the community, also known as the Elite.
