“An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.” (-Ghandi). If we kill people for killing other people, we are saying murder is a way to serve justice with murder. If no one has the right to take someone’s life away, then why should anyone? The death penalty has been extremely controversial in Connecticut. Many have been discussing the choice and finalizing the decision on whether to abolish or keep the penalty around the country itself. The state of Connecticut should get rid of the death penalty. Lethal injections may go horribly wrong, innocents are wrongly accused, and it does not serve justice.
Why do we kill people, who kill people, to show that killing is wrong? Death is a cruel and unusual punishment, and is a violative of the Eighth and Fourteenth amendments. The Constitutional statement on the punishment of death states that it treats ‘members of the human race as nonhumans, as objects to be toyed with and discarded. [It is] thus inconsistent with the fundamental premise of the Clause that even the vilest criminal remains a human being possessed of common human dignity’. It states as well, no one can deprive any person of life, liberty, or property. Additionally, the death penalty is institutionalized revenge, emotional disclosure, and monetary cost. Although some would argue that the death penalty is needed for justice to balance out punishment with crime, the death penalty does not apply to even the worst murderers or even those who have never murdered, but has tortured or done great harm. The death penalty is a cruel and unjust method of serving justice, innocent defendants are often put on death row, and execution by lethal injection has the risk of going horribly wrong. With the rise of the population going against the death penalty, we should influence other states to have a death penalty free
