The True Mockingbirds of To Kill a Mockingbird To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee (1960), Scout and Jem are both growing up in Maycomb town where they experience firsthand the wrongful principles of the people they are influenced by. They are both raised by their dedicated father, Atticus Finch, however, they come to develop their own differing perspective on the visible blind spots of mankind. The mockingbird in the novel is used as a symbol for innocence in the perspective of Jem and Scout. In Boo Radley’s perspective the mockingbird is seen as the symbol for all things beautiful and not able to do harm. As Scout and Jem are raised in a town full of racism and ignorance they are beginning to realize that the world is not a garden
In Chapter 12 of Harper Lee’s, To Kill a Mockingbird, there are many events and situations in which irony is used to support the theme of the chapter. An example of this is in the very beginning of the chapter, when Scout is concerned about how distant and moody Jem is acting, and asks Atticus, “’Reckon he’s got a tapeworm?’” (Lee 153), to which Atticus replies no, and that Jem is growing. This is dramatic irony because the readers understand that Jem is acting oddly because he’s growing, but Scout doesn’t know this until she asks Atticus about it. This quote supports the theme of Chapter 12 by showing when Jem started to grow distance from Scout, getting aggravated with her and telling her to stop bothering him, and shows how the children
In To “Kill A Mockingbird” Atticus Finch is faced with a hostile racist jury during the case of State of Alabama v Thomas Robinson, this court case in particular has stood out to me because I am going be faced with a similar hostile jury soon; I will be analyzing the closing argument made by Atticus in To Kill a Mockingbird to further prepare. In the closing argument made by Atticus there are several allusions and references to symbols that have an effect on the court. An example of an allusion used by Atticus’s closing argument would be the reference to the word yankee and the use

Mockingbirds In A River of Racism and Prejudice A mockingbird is a person of innocence, kindness and decency who is slowly washed away by the strong, flowing river of racism and prejudice. Sometimes, the mockingbird is completely washed away but in some cases, there are still little parts of them floating in the river.
A child’s parent is supposed to teach them how to live their life to the best of their ability. A parent can teach a child however they want to, nobody knows what way of teaching works best. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch, father of two, teaches his children differently than the average person. Many people criticize Atticus’ way of parenting, such as Aunt Alexandra, but many people, however, agree with his ways of teaching his children. This book is mainly about one of Atticus’ children, Jean Louise Finch (Scout).
One of the most challenging experiences in life is dealing with an inevitable truth. In Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird Mrs. Dubose finally reveals her hitherto unknown strength upon her death. Jem and Scout both witness - although to what extent they are affected is not stated- to what Atticus called “the bravest person [he] knows” and as result learn that true courage has nothing to do with guns. After her son’s brutal killing, Mrs. Till went above and beyond by demonstrating to others the audacity to oppose the prejudicial community - accelerating the civil rights by posing as example and statement in Keith Beauchamp’s documentary The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till.
The poet, Lascelles Abercrombie once said, “There is only one thing which can master the perplexed stuff of epic material into unity; and that is, an ability to see in particular human experience some significant symbolism of man 's general destiny.”. He talked about how powerful of a tool symbolism is and how it is the only thing that can truly define a highly complex ‘destiny’ or series of events. Symbolism is something that is found throughout Harper Lee’s book, To Kill a Mockingbird. Lee shows the reader that racism is a product of society, she portrays the matter through her symbolism of the mad dog, the birds and the bugs.
The book To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee. We chose the court scene where Atticus was protecting the defendant which is a Negro from going to jail. We chose this scene because Atticus is a white man protecting the defendant who is black, that is what makes us like this scene so much. Sadly the defendant lost the case and the black man had to go to jail. The theme in the scene was that supposebly the black man raped and beat up a white girl but he did not.
