271 Words2 Pages
In his article “How To Kill Mockingbird Reflects the Real Civil Rights Movement”(June 26, 2017), Daniel Levy draws the connection between Harper Lee’s book, To Kill a Mockingbird, and the civil rights movement and how she used it to support the movement . To begin, Levy introduces us the main plot of the book and expert’s opinion on it. Harper Lee’s book focuses on a court case where a black man is convicted for raping a white woman. In the old days, a rape accusation by a white woman against a black man would automatically leads to the black man’s either through death sentence or lynching. This discrimination and social issue was used to control the colored folks and Levy even gives us the statistic on death by lynching to support his claim.
