Her book will go down in history as a means to educate students about the appalling tale of the atrocities committed by John Wilson. Simmie aimed to create a book that would repair Polly Wilson’s,also known as Mary Hutchinson’s, reputation. With each book sold, Simmie continues to accomplish the task of amending the memory of Polly as well as spreading the truth of John Wilson. “In a story carefully reconstructed from letters, police files, and court documents author Lois Simmie creates a book that is a compelling mix of true-crime, history and the vagaries of human nature” (back cover). Simmie proves to reader that though someone may be a person of the law, they may still be capable of horrendous actions and they are not above the persecution of the justice system.
1. Cass Mastern’s story, though at first seemingly unnecessary and random, shares many elements and themes with Jack’s life. The story of Jack Burden and Cass Mastern are alike in that they involve the cycle of betrayal, guilt, and the burden of responsibility. Cass Mastern commits the ultimate betrayal- he sleeps with his best friend’s wife. Duncan Trice, who was “passionately and single-mindedly devoted to his wife”, commits suicide upon finding out of the affair with a “lead slug nearly the size of a man’s thumb in his chest” (Warren 4.237-243).
Most people decide to live in the present or plan for the future in most of their lives, but many people focus on the past not only as their ages of glory but also as the only important point in their lives. A particularly poignant example of this phenomenon is the titular character uncle, Rico, from the movie Napoleon Dynamite. Rico’s saga consists of a middle-aged man who lets his teenage aspirations of being a star football player control his thinking long into adulthood. Uncle Rico provides a fantastic example of the common phenomenon of desiring and dreaming for possibilities from the past instead of actively attempting to improve his own life in the present. Uncle Rico is one of many people in the modern age who live sad existences focusing
I had known about lynching before this book however Dr. DeGruy goes into detail about the horrific acts. She explains how men that went though no legal process were brutally beaten burned and lynched simply because they talked or looked a white women or simply just stood up for them self. Its disgust me that people would take pictures and treat a lynching like a joyful ceremony. It is disturbing to think that another man would cut off another man 's body parts and keep them as a souvenir. This really made think about the atrocities that were committed in our country that no one has paid

I believe the protagonist in this story was the principal. Even though he's rarely talked
Overall, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee is a novel that does a good job of showing how innocence can be destroyed by the display of evil. Innocence was destroyed many times at the trial. All the kids felt the bad vibes in the courthouse, but it was Jem who took the hardest blow. Jem believed that the court would indict Tom because Atticus provided hard evidence that he was innocent. He thought

Many philosophers say; “The most challenging part of growing up is letting go of what is comfortable, and moving on to something unknown.” This quote strongly applies to the maturity process of Jeremy “Jem” Finch, a lead character in Harper Lee’s award-winning novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. The book I chose to read for my book review was “ Killing Mr.Griffin”. It is about 5 high school students who hate their english teacher Mr. Griffin and come up with a plan to kidnap him. Their main purpose is to just torture and make Mr. Griffin think he is going to die. The plan takes a tragic turn and results in Mr. Griffin's death. The plan simply falls apart in a domino effect of terror and grief.
Cullen couldn’t control his anger, and lacked a conscience which he demonstrated when he tried to fight against bullying by spiking drinks at a party with rat poison (Jennifer Hash, 2006, p.1). Charles believed that being victim of bullying justifies killing people. He justified killing people because he thought of himself as a victim. He was the target of bullying in school and in the Navy. Then, both his mother and brother died young.
