Live for Life
Out of the three books we were offered to read and write a book journal over, I chose to read How to Live for Life: The End of Dieting by Joel Fuhrman, M.D. The title itself caught my attention because America is so overweight and working in the healthcare field I see many sick patients who have poor eating habits. America is also constantly buying into all of these fad diets to try and loose weight quickly without having to exercise. You can google fad diets and the reults are unlimited. So, I wanted to read about how to end dieting once and forall so I can pass it on to my family and patients.
The American Diet vs a High Nutrient Diet

According to Joel, “constant fluctuations in weight and drastic changes to our diet are dangerous and likely to increase our risk in cardiovascular disease” (Fuhrman, 2014). Currently, the standard American diet consists of high calorie, low nutrient foods. The American diet usually consumes foods high in fats, carbohydrates, animal proteins, dairy products, and fast foods. This diet is high in processed foods, which overtime increase your risk of cancer and heart disease. Ultimately this American diet is a toxic diet that is killing Americans everyday (Fuhrman, 2014).

According to Joel, “your health is predicted by your nutrient intake divided by your calorie intake” (Fuhrman, 2014). After reading everything about a high nutrient diet, my mouth dropped because of all of the good benefits this ‘diet’ can do for our bodies. I would say I eat healthy, but after reading this book my diet will change and I will be eating even healthier.
