In The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, there are numerous symbols of Jesus Christ. These symbols show how Kafka uses Biblical alliteration to portray Gregor as a Christ-type. The most prominent symbols are the number three, Gregor being like a sacrificial lamb, and Gregor as a Christ figure. These symbols portray Gregor as a Biblical figure. Kafka uses repetition of the number three to show Christ through a biblical analogy. The number three is significant in both the Bible and The Metamorphosis. In the Bible, in the book of Luke, Jesus died at 3:00 p.m. After three days, Jesus rose from the dead. The Holy Trinity is three divine persons. Similarly, Gregor dies at 3:00 a.m. and has three changes in his personality through the three chapters. In the first chapter, Gregor resents his parents and is extremely selfish. They both are betrayed and left to die by their friends and family, even though Gregor and Jesus had given all of their lives to the service of these people. One of the most prominent examples of betrayal of Gregor is when the novella says, "She saw the dirt as well as he did, but she had simply decided to leave it there." This quote for the passage shows that Greta, who had once made sure that Gregor was comfortable, fed, and felt loved, had decided to change her ways and force everyone else to leave the room alone because she would take care of it. However, she did not care anymore about Gregor. Jesus was also betrayed his disciples, Judas particularly. Judas sent an army of men to where Jesus was praying, and these men eventually killed Jesus. After everything both of these people have done for their family and friends, they betray both Jesus and Gregor. Gregor and Jesus are very similar in how they were betrayed and sacrificed themselves for
