Valentine’s Day 2018, the Day Without Love.
On February 14, 2018, an active shooter went into a high school in Parkland Florida and killed 17 people. Some people believe that new gun laws need to be in place to prevent school shootings. However some believe that taking away guns will not stop a person who wants to harm others. School shootings have became a big problem in the United States and something needs to be done to stop them from happening. Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida was just a normal high school. It had over 3,000 students 9-12th grade. On the afternoon of February 14, 2018, a shooter pulled the fire alarm and threw smoke bombs before he made his way through the school campus and started shooting as people began running through the smoke. When he pulled the fire alarms, everyone thought there was a fire so they were trying to get out. He killed 17 people and injured many others. He left his AR-15 and the vest he …show more content…

Several say that it is the solution to the big problem the United States has with school shootings. It may not stop the shooter but it could prevent a massacre. Others believe that teachers having guns is too much. They think that the children need more loving and caring adults in their lives, not more guns. People also believe that any kind of automatic or semi-automatic gun should be banned in the United States.
According to the New York Times, 486 people have died from mass shootings since 2000. Most of time, the shooting ends before police can even make it to the scene. The amount of shootings have increased in the past seven years. The United States has been trying to find ways to prevent school shootings since the massacre at Sandy Hook elementary. Many argue over what they believe is the solution. Many disagreements have came up but everyone can agree that something needs to be
