I thought that the chapters were very informative. I found my self reflecting on the topic and then trying to relate them to today’s current events. The first topic that interests me was the Hispanics values. I think that it very important for a race to have a set of values because it aligns them to have a stronger belief system. What pointed out to me was the “respect for hierarchy, and the machismo idea” (Fong & Furuto, 2001). Hispanics believe that men are the more dominant people in the culture. Men should take charge and be the leader of the family. This reminds me of the feminist framework that we read about in our 1st textbook. In America women wanted to be treated the same as men. One of the things that assist the feminist framework is the law of no discrimination against people. I may encounter Hispanic values in my social practice because I may have a client who is Hispanic, so I need to be able to communicate with them and understand their values to provide the best treatment possible. …show more content…

This assessment offers a way to understand people and their environment. In the social work practice often time I will be working with a diverse group. I am never going to be able to remember everything so this ecological assessment can help me understand my clients more. My client may not be able to explain everything to me, so its my job to be able to communicate with them. This is a good tool to use to become an effective social worker. Using the PIE method I will be able to analyze clients issues better than if I didn’t use it.
