For my first journal post I would like to focus on dreams and dream analysis. Here I will be looking Freud’s view on what exactly people dream about and why people dream.
So, are you ever curious as to why we dream what we do? People’s dreams could range from a petrifying car accident, flying on a piece of toast, and so many more realistic and/or bizarre actions. I am sure some of you have questioned why you dreamed what you did that night and what it exactly means, I know I have. Freud had some certain hypotheses regarding why we dream and researchers have essentially produced findings relevant to some of his ideas. Firstly, Freud believed that the content of our dreams provides us with clues about unconscious conflicts and desires. Evidence has shown that what people dream about is influenced by fears, worries, and problems that are enclosed by our thoughts. This makes sense because although we may not be fully aware of these thoughts or emotions they still have an influence on our behaviors and the only way the mind can deal with the problem is to escape from it in the sense of a dream. Freud believed that the purpose of dreams was wish fulfillment.

For example, when I have dreamt about death most of the sources on the internet will tell you death symbolizes the end of something in your life such as a current job, relationship, friendship, or phase.
