What would you do if you were dragged out of your home and brought to a facility to be tested on knowing you would suffer? Well, many animals have to live through this and they can’t protest against it. Good morning/afternoon class and Mr. Fox, today I will be discussing the issue of animal testing. This approach to research has proven ineffective, inhumane, misleading expensive and even dangerous to people.

Animal tests are misleading a large number of researchers into ignoring potential cures and treatments due to the results of Animal testing. There are chemicals that are dangerous to animals but are useful to humans, if the safety of a product is based off of its effect on animals, then many medical breakthroughs that saved thousands of lives would not occur. Vitamin C tablets, Aspirin and the Fk-506 drug used to reduce the risk of organ transplant rejection are examples of life changing products that would not have existed if researches relied on Animal testing. …show more content…

Products that pass animal tests are not necessarily safe, this fact has lead to deadly results. Examples of disasters caused by animal testing are presented in the 1950s when a sleeping pill call Thalidomide passed the safety test based on animals, this drug later caused over 10,000 babies to be born with severe birth defects. Another instance the arthritis drug Vioxx that displayed a positive effect on the hearts of mice but the drug went on to cause more than 27,000 heart attacks and sudden cardiac deaths before being pulled off shelves.
