With millions of dollars and much research done in the advertising industry every year, advertisers and marketers have perfected strategies to grip their viewers’ attention in under a minute through gripping taglines, an energetic soundtrack and bright images . The advertisement All You Can Eat by Weight Watchers is a great example of all those advertising techniques. I enjoyed this commercial due to its witty dialogue and clever double entendres, though those aspects were not what originally caught my attention. It was with Weight Watchers’ flashy images, bombing background music, fast mouthed narrative and the bright assortment of colors that my attention was drawn, almost demanded. The advertisement starts with the attention grabbing line “want to get baked” while a match ignites in slow motion and blows up to the image of fiery explosion. The video then pans out to show that the match was used to ignite a gas stove. From the primal fire it transitions to sugar and candy, which have a striking resemblance to chemical drugs like meth. Suddenly the screen is bombarded with many images of baked goods: muffins, donuts, onion rings and more! The narrator then proceeds to list many foods and there different sizes, tastes and textures. There are 56 jump cuts in an ad that is 57 seconds long, which means there is a frame change every second of the ad, After a few seconds the slow pan is quickly sped up and replaced with many different images. They then incorporate fast cut techniques letting the viewer see the images of the appealing fast food but only for a second before it moves on to another appealing
