They would sexually harass her because of her body, called her a “sl*t,” invaded her privacy, and so forth. But if they changed their actions towards Hannah, she could've still stayed alive to this day. Clay wanted to talk her into staying alive, but he got nervous, and couldn't do it, because he had a crush on her until she died. When Hannah was still alive, she was slowly giving up hope. From the novel, everyone had a class called “Peer Communications” class where students can learn more about one another after hearing the stories they share. The teacher had the students decorate a paper bag, and place it on a revolving book stand, where anyone can write anonymous notes of encouragement, and insert it in the wanted student’s bag. But later on, when Hannah was already becoming suicidal looking for any hope left, a guy in her class named, Zach Dempsey, had stolen her notes of encouragement. But he did not know those notes in her bag were worth so much to her. This could have saved her own life. Alternatively, he stole the only thing worthwhile from her, and that impacted so much on her, seeing that, motivated the decision of killing herself. As can be seen, the theme of Thirteen Reasons Why is to be careful what actions you do towards a person, because that may impact a person
