Did you ever struggle with reading at a young age? Were you ever pulled out of class in elementary school for reading assistants? Some of us aren’t good at some subjects such as mathematics, social studies, writing, or science, but mine was reading. While in elementary, I could get the help I needed so that I no longer had an issue with reading. Without the help of my teacher who pulled me out of class to give me more one on one help, I would still be struggling today with reading/literacy. My main struggles were that I could not remember words even after being told multiple times, I struggled with spelling which caused me to be confused while reading, and later in elementary school I began to just skip over words because I didn’t know them. It all started in 1st grade when I fail behind my classmates when it came to reading. Lucky my teacher noticed very soon and I could get the assistants I needed. At first I was a little embarrassed at the fact that I had to be pulled away from all my friends but once I saw how fun my special teacher made it, it got better. While reading a short story or even a paragraph, I could not understand words that were told to me many times. I would quickly give up and just start guessing on questions that were giving to me. While reading alone, I struggled with understanding exactly what I was reading since I could not spell words. If I couldn’t spell the word, I did not understand them which caused me to fall behind because I couldn’t get a lot of one on one time with teacher. Not knowing how to spell impacted my ability to write. Once my teacher realized that I was struggling they got me the helped I needed right away. With the help from my special teacher, I started to be able to spell more words which also helped me with my writing
