Describe you experience with this workshop!
The Musical Theatre Workshop was one of my favorite because it combined dancing, singing, acting and music to communicate a range of emotion to tell stories through these elements about love, pain, happiness, grief, anger and humor. Each element of Musical Theatre plays of one another. In other words, the music and singing elevates the dance to convey a message to the audience. Like all of the other workshops, Musical Theatre required proper breathing techniques due to the fact that many of the dance movements were very theatrical. This was difficult for me at times because I am not as free-flowing and flexible in my movements like others in the workshop. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the workshop. As a result of all of these workshops, I have a greater appreciation for the Arts and now understand why people like Debbie Allen are very active in keeping the Arts in our school systems around the world.
How did this workshop experience differ from the previous ones?
The Musical Theatre Workshop required more creative and less structured movements than the other workshops; however, the same amount of flexibility and focus on technique was required to be successful in the movements.
What connections were made with the reading material?
Everything that we have learned in the five workshops so far connects with the reading in theory; however, we you are actually practicing the movements, if you are not a professional dancer; you tend to be all over the place.
Did you experience anything concerning syncopation, isolations, personal style?
I like the fact that we were able to use our own personal style during the workshop because it is the one thing that makes these workshops fun and interesting, especially when you are not a professional
