In my opinion, one of the most entertaining media products ever created was “Glee”, the musical comedy-drama series that followed the lives of highschool teens from different social groups but were united through their common interest in singing and dancing. I started watching the show when I was 10 years old; it was one of the first PG rated shows I watched and it made me feel mature. The show follows the lives of the individual Glee club members as they go through the struggles of high school; from teen pregnancy, crushes, coming out, bullies, and of course the embarrassment of being slushied for being in the Glee club. It was also the variety in music genres that made the show so appealing to audiences of many generations. If it wasn’t for Glee’s weekly themed performances, I would not know many of songs from the 20th century. The show would make you want to sing, dance, laugh, and cry. As their audience expanded, Glee became more than a just a tv show; it was a global community. Fan clubs were created by viewers who called themselves “Gleeks”, you could find Glee apparel at your local WalMart, schools around the world started their own glee clubs, and the cast went on a concert tour for which they also created a 3D movie. I had the opportunity to see them perform when they were here in Toronto. It was my first concert and I felt like I was connected to everyone in the Air Canada Centre as we all sang together at the top of our lungs.
