“The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” Four people going on a quest to achieve their goals, this is one of the main aspects to “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum. Just as we go throughout life in a journey to achieve our goals so do Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion. They each have their own goals that they are looking to accomplish and they do this together by traveling to the Wizard of Oz. Dorothy is your average girl with strong morals and values. As Dorothy enters this new and exciting world she is intrigued; however, she knows in her heart that the only place she really wishes to be is home with her family. She believes that Oz can help her get back home to her family so she travels to him seeking his assistance. Little does Dorothy know she’s had the power to get home the entire time in the magic slippers from the Wicked Witch of the East. The scarecrow embarks on the journey to Oz so that he can achieve his goal of one day having a brain. He believes that because he sits in a farm field all day to scare away crows that he is useless and unintelligent. She helped him move and allowed him to come on the quest in search of a heart. As we are told in the story the Tin Woodman was a real man before the Wicked Witch of the East came along. He used to have a heart and be in love until it was taken away from him. He feels as if he no longer can love or feel since he does not have a heart. The Tin Woodman wants to go to Oz in hopes of getting a heart so he can once again have emotions. As the story continues on we see that The Tin Woodman, even though doubting himself, has had his emotions all along and shows that he can be thoughtful and
