Henry Craig Red 1 Chevy 200 manufacturing during WW2 February 28, 2023 Chevy manufactured more than 200 cars during WW2 despite them not having enough material. Chevy made 281,570 trucks during WW2, Most of those automobiles were trucks. And they made fewer than 200 suvs. But those suvs were put to use fighting in WW2 with bullet proof armor and a small but mighty engine. Pumping out a little over 210 horsepower. Chevy and general motors help the US armed forces in world war two by making over 280,000 vehicles, trucks and suvs that could be airdropped and trucks that can drive in all types of terrain to fight in war with. Chevy and Gm helped the armed forces by making over 280,000 vehicles and this help the armed forces because something …show more content…
A piece of evidence from usauthority.com was “6 by 6, 4 by 4 and 4 by 2 all being able to drive in 3 ft of water over the steepest climbs while also being able to drive for 203 miles on one tank of gas”(Jackson). This was extremely important because with having 6 wheels they were able to drive all over the mountains and could get back into hiding. Their gas was important because they were not just able to drive on the road, they had to drive on the gravel and the grass and even sometimes had to go through the rivers. A second reason the chevy made a good product was because they were very capable of making a truck within a month. Something I found from GM authority “1947 it took GM and Chevy and their team to make 4 trucks fully built in 10 to 12 weeks”(Mark Recess). To be able to have 4 trucks in WW2 was good because the war lasted 6 years they could make 26 trucks per location and GM motors had 22 factories in the midwest through the east coast. This would make them the 3rd largest car manufacturer in the world at the time. One last piece of evidence “4000 cars made for the Uk and the british army some of them came equipped with cannons and air compressors”(leventas). Chevy had 16 factories in the uk to make the trucks and in one year for WW2 they …show more content…
Something I found from a world book online “The douglas dc-47 was powered by twin chevolair 150 shaft HP”(Andler). This was important because this was one of the world's first planes, the Douglas dc-47 which means it had a cargo compartment to carry up to 2 trucks that could be taken from main at the time and been delivered to london. A second piece of evidence from GM authority is “4 by 4 trucks were made with 4 hooks and chains that would be attached to the fuselage of the douglass dc-47)”( Mark Resses). This is smart by chevy because then they could now take a big truck and fly it into combat and could drop it while moving. The third reason is “ Chevy crew cab trucks had a parachute that deployed when released by chain”(Resses). This was the finishing touches of the Vehicles. General Motors was the smartest business for this in World War
